
Annina Haug

Winner of the Léopold Bellan International Competition (Paris), Swiss mezzo-soprano Annina Haug has performed as a soloist with several orchestras and ensembles, including the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the Lausanne Symphony Orchestra, Lucerne, the Basel Sinfonietta, the Orchestre Musique des Lumières, the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Ensemble Symphonique Neuchâtelois, the Bienne Symphony Orchestra and the Capriccio Barockorchester.
She sings many of the major works of the oratorio repertoire – Bach's Mass in B minor, Christmas Oratorio, Magnificat and Passions; Handel's Messiah; Pergolesi's Stabat Mater; Mozart's Requiem and Mass in C minor; Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle; Mendelssohn's Elias; Verdi and Duruflé's Requiems – in the major concert halls of Switzerland such as the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the KKL in Lucerne, the Tonhalle in Zurich, the Stadtcasino Basel, the Salle de musique in La Chaux-de-Fonds and the Salle Métropole in Lausanne.
Among the roles that Annina Haug embodies on the opera stage, we find Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Lucretia (The Rape of Lucretia), Angelina (Cenerentola), Fenena (Nabucco), Idamante (Idomeneo), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Melanto/Umana Fragilità (Il ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria), Isaura (Tancredi), Geneviève (Geneviève de Brabant), Mamma Lucia (Cavalleria Rusticana), Oreste (La belle Hélène) and Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte) for the Luzerner Theater, the Opéra de Massy, the Théâtre Musical de Besançon, the Nouvel Opéra de Fribourg, the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Charleroi, the Théâtre Bienne-Solothurn, Opera Lyrica de Neuchâtel, the Opéra du Rhône and the Opéra des Champs.
The recital is also one of her favorite fields, whether in the company of pianist Edward Rushton with whom she promotes the repertoire of Lied and French melody at home thanks to the traveling concept of the association Besuch der Lieder, or with harpist Meret Eve Haug with whom she has formed the Duo Haug since 2012. Off the beaten track, she meets pianist Raphaël Sudan for sparkling cabaret evenings between Paris and Broadway. In addition, her discography includes recordings for Claves, Resonus and Spektral.
After obtaining her cello teaching diploma from the Neuchâtel Conservatory, Annina Haug studied opera singing at the Royal Academy of Music in London, the Musikhochschule in Lucerne and the Schweizer Opernstudio in Biel, and took part in masterclasses with Ann Howells, Klaus Mertens, Robert Tear and Margreet Honig.
Winner of the Edna Bralesford Prize for Contralto (Royal Academy of Music) and First Prize at the National Competition of the Jura Festival, she also holds scholarships in Switzerland from the Sandoz, Marianne und Kurt Dienemann, Kiefer-Hablitzel, Jean Tanner and Elvira Lüthi-Wegman foundations, as well as the Eldee Scholarship and the Josephine Baker Trust in the United Kingdom.
